Hobbies: Amateur radio, shortwave listening, building my own radio equipment ie: Very low frequency receivers, QRP transceivers and other electronic goodies. Astronomy, radio astronomy, collecting meteorites, reading, studying the Bible plus I enjoy Gliding.

My interest in astronomy began when I was around seven years of age. My interest in radio began with shortwave listening in 1973 which I really enjoyed (and still do) I became a licensed radio amateur in 1986, with the callsign of G7AYU. I then went on to pass the then required 12wpm Morse test in 1990 and was issued with the class A callsign of G0OMH. I'm QRV on all bands from 160m to 70cms all modes. ▀▄▀▄▀▄▀▄▀▄▀▄▀▄▀▄▀▄▀▄▀▄▀▄

The first published discovery to have received subsequent confirmation was made in 1988 by the Canadian astronomers Bruce Campbell, GAH Walker, and S. Yang. Their radial-velocity observations suggested that a planet orbited the star Gamma Cephei. They remained cautious about claiming a true planetary detection, and widespread skepticism persisted in the astronomical community for several years about this and other similar observations. It was mainly because the observations were at the very limits of instrumental capabilities at the time. Another source of confusion was that some of the possible planets might instead have been brown dwarfs, objects that are intermediate in mass between planets and stars.
